    Abstract

Although the presence of intranuclear vacuoles in fine needle aspiration biopsy specimens and clear nuclei in histologic specimens is considered characteristic of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid, these findings are not pathognomonic of this disease. This paper reports a case of follicular adenoma of the thyroid with such features and emphasizes the importance of not relying solely on these criteria for the diagnosis of papillary carcinoma.
