Abstract
The dipole moment of two unlike rare gas atoms derived from gas phase infra-red measurements is compared to the force calculated from known potentials. The dipole autocorrelation function derived from the infra-red absorption of liquid phase rare gas mixtures is compared to a computer generated force autocorrelation function. It is concluded that the interaction dipole and the force are strikingly similar to one another and may be proportional.
