Frame distortion as a possible mechanism for collision-induced infrared absorption

Abstract

The possibility that frame distortion may be of importance in causing collision-induced infrared absorption is considered and the He-CO2 case is chosen as a specific example. It is concluded that frame distortion may be responsible for far-infrared absorption of the same order of magnitude as that caused by overlap moments.
