Abstract
At the outset of Al-Muqtadir's (r.908-932) disastrous reign over the Caliphate, a short-lived and somewhat puzzlig coup rocked the 'Abbasid court'. Al-Muqtadie, an inexperienced youth who had reached by the throne through the machinations of shrewd administrators, was challenged by the seasond and widely respected prince Ibn al-Mu'tazz (d. 908).
