Abstract
The main concern of the computer architect in designing a new architecture is the performance of the computing system. The presented paper deals with a new machine which is designed to be efficient in List processing and parallel execution even on large Data Structures. The machine architecture is tagged Lisp based Data Driven with a novel parallel control mechanism. The machine language is a Functional High Level Language and the proposed architecture strives to implement functional laguage ages directly and efficiently, taking advantage of the implicit parllelism and pipelining afforded by those languages. The functional description of the architecture and its data structure are given and the modular structure computer system architecture is presented in detail. The proposed control mechanism is the natural extension of a Data Driven scheme to functional evaluation and is achieved by the use of communication channels. Hence the proposed architecture provides a great freedom in connection topology choice. This allows the architecture to fit in various applications without expansion restriction. Moreover, the architecture philosophy and its Data Structure type permit to realise the potential of VLSI technology, and contribute to apply the proposed machine to artificial intelligence applications.
