Abstract

The fluorescence decay of 8-hydroxy pyrene 1,3,6-trisulphonate (HPTS) was found to be non-exponential. A kinetic model which attributes this behaviour to a reversible time-dependent geminate recombination is presented. Although only slightly affecting the dissociation profile, geminate recombination has a considerable effect on the dissociation rate.
