Abstract
The fabrication of intermetallic NiAl bonded sub-stoichiometric titanium carbide based composite TiC0.6/NiAl was discussed. Sub-stoichiometric TiC0.6 preforms were obtained by mixing stoichiometric TiC powder with Ti metal powder in predetermined ratios. The study showed that diffusion of Ti atoms improved the interfacial bonding strength of the composite and induced the precipitation of an ordered L2 1 type Ni2AlTi from the NiAl matrix. At long period modulated structure was also observed at the phase boundary.
