Hybrid error concealment in digital compressed video streams

    Abstract

Transmission of a compressed video signal over a lossy communication network exposes the information to losses and errors, which may cause serious and visible degradation to the decoded video stream. We present a new hybrid error concealment algorithm, relying on temporal and spatial concealment. This algorithm includes consideration of the spatial and temporal activity in the surrounding of a lost block, and introduces four thresholds, which lead to choosing the suitable concealment scheme for each block.
