Abstract
Hypoplasia of the maxillary antrum is uncommon, but its recognition is important as patients with this condition are often inappropriately given repeated courses of antibiotics and decongestants for so-called 'chronic sinusitis'. Orbital enlargement secondary to hypoplasia of the maxillary antrum, which must not be mistaken for the presence of an orbital mass, is described. Computed tomography is superior to conventional radiography for demonstration of orbital contents and mucoperiosteal membranes.
