Abstract
The filed of gynecology has been a miss in failing to establish clinical guidelines for selecting the appropriate route for hysterectomy. Laparoscopic hysterectomy, which has recently become a high-profile procedure, has made the decision even more complex. Laparoscopic hysterectomy is a way of avoiding laparotomy by converting an abdominal hysterectomy into a laparoscopic/vaginal procedure. The aim of this manuscript is to describe the concept behind, and the rationale for, laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy.
