Abstract

Extraction of potassium ions from concentrated chloride solutions of alkali and alkaline-earth cations with Cyanex® 301 [bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)dithiophosphinic acid] and a crown ether has been studied. The extractant was used in toluene solution or supported on a styrene-divinylbenzene resin (1.5 % crosslinked) and showed synergistic behaviour and high preference for potassium over sodium, magnesium and calcium.
