Abstract

The characteristics of impinging streams are outlined. Configurations of impinging-stream contactors and their modes of operation are described. The behaviour of particles and droplets in impinging streams is examined with respect to single phase impinging streams and motion of a single particle, Monte Carlo simulation of gas-solid and gas-liquid suspensions in impinging streams, discrete Markov chains, and the mean residence time of the particles in the reactor and its scale-up. Processes using impinging streams are described: solid-solid and gas-gas mixing, combustion, dissolution of solid particles, absorption of gases in liquids, drying of solids, and enrichment of phosphate rock.
