Abstract

A new approach to sanitary landfill simulation is presented. The new approach deals with three easily measurable variables including solid waste, leachate and biogas. The process of the solid waste degradation inside a landfill cell is modeled as conversion of the initial product to the final product via intermediate product. The theory of two-member decay chain reaction with first-order kinetics is applied for mathematical description of such a conversion. On the background of present qualitative model a predictive mathematical model dealing with the same variables governed by a high-order kinetics may be developed and used for the landfill design.
