Abstract

Seismic full waveform inversion (FWI) is a powerful method for obtaining high resolution subsurface images. However, in the case of multi-parameter FWI, such as elastic FWI, different parameter types have different formal resolutions which can degrade the overall performance of the method. The problem can be ameliorated by taking into account the structural similarity of different model parameters. For that purpose we have developed a structurally-constrained elastic FWI. Using a 2D synthetic example, we demonstrate that adding such constraints can significantly improve the tomographic images.
