Abstract

Flows with virtually two-dimensional anisotropic turbulence have been studied
experimentally. The onset of such modified turbulence has been achieved by influencing a mercury flow with special turbulizers and an external magnetic field. Mean velocities, turbulence intensities, energy spectra and heat transfer have been measured. The inversion of turbulent energy transfer leads to almost complete cessation of viscous dissipation of turbulence, to enhancement of large scale disturbances and heat transfer,
