Abstract
The motivations and context for investigating magnetohydrodynamics in liquid metal breeder blankets has been presented. MHD is known to bear a direct and significant effect on the thermophysical properties of liquid lead. An experimental setup is being designed and built at the BULLET facility Nuclear Futures Institute to evaluate changes to heat transfer performance of lead under strong magnetic fields. This is being preceded by a tabletop saltwater loop which is being assembled to conduct simple engineering tests to evaluate the effectiveness of measurement techniques. The work is being combined with computational modelling on OpenModelica to produce experimental and computational results with varying test conditions.
