Investigation of the temperature stability of plant fibres by the spin label method

Abstract

The authors have studied the temperature dependence of the parameters of rotatory diffusion of the radical attached to different kinds of polymer fibres isolated from healthy and wilt-stricken cotton. It has been established that at certain temperatures structural transitions occur accompanied by an appreciable increase in the rotatory diffusion of the radical in all the samples studied. For the samples of fibres isolated from wilt-stricken cotton plants the temperatures at which the structural transitions occur are shifted to a higher region as compared with the samples of fibre isolated from healthy cotton plants. This points to the greater microrigidity of fibres affected by wilt.
