Abstract
The ionic conductivity of YAG single crystals doped with a variety of impurities including Ce, Ni, Ni+Zr, Fe and Ca was studied and generally found to be PO2-independent, fixed by acceptor impurities. In the case of Ni dopants, a PO2-dependent ionic conductivity was also observed and associated with the valence change of Ni3+ to Ni2+. The activation energy for oxygen ion conduction ranged from 2.2 to 4.0 eV. Results are compared with diffusion data.
