Abstract
A new (π-C10H12)Pt(μ3-Se) 2Fe2(CO)6 cluster has been prepared by transmetallation of (μ3-Se)2Fe3(CO) 9 with π-C10H12PtCl2 and characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The platinum atom has a planar-square coordination formed by two double bonds of the dicyclopentadiene molecule and two μ3-bridging Se atoms. In addition to the two Se bridges, the Fe(CO)3 fragments are linked through an Fe-Fe bond (2.545(2) Å). Besides, one of the Fe atoms is involved in Fe-Pt bonding (3.169(2) Å). As a result, the ligand plane of the platinum atom is inclined with respect to the perpendicular Fe-Fe bond. The role of the steric effects of ligand-ligand repulsion in Fe-Pt interaction in chalcogenide clusters L 2Pt(μ3-X)2Fe2(CO)6, where L2 is phosphine or dienes, is discussed.
