    Abstract

We report on the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program satellite observations of irregular plasma density troughs related with UHF radio scintillations at subauroral latitudes during the magnetic storms of September 1999 and 2001. The troughs were associated with either structured subauroral polarization streams or elevated electron temperature. The observed irregularity spectrum within the range of 0.75-7.5 km is well-approximated by a power law with the spectral index -5/3 ≳~ -pn ≳~ -2.
