Abstract
The covalent contribution to the Jahn-Teller interaction constant of impurity 3d centers with semiconductors having T//d symmetry is calculated. The example of the E multiplied by t//2 configuration is used to show that the covalent contribution to the effect may either reinforce or counteract the electrostatic contribution, depending on the position of the d levels relative to the allowed bands in the semiconductor.
