Abstract

The arrested flow method using the acid-base indicator 3,3′-dibromo-p-xylenolsulphonphthalein has been employed to investigate the kinetics of proton release during electron transfer in nitrogenase coupled with ATP hydrolysis. It is shown that all three processes occur at similar rates. It is shown that all three processes occur at similar rates. It has been established that in identical conditions (14 °C, pH 7·3) the reaction rate constant of proton release (20-23 sec-1) matches the rate constant of electron transfer (24 ± 2 sec-1).
