Abstract

Re(NAr)2CI3(py) (Ar = 2,6-C6H3-i-Pr2) reacts with 1 equiv of zinc dust in the presence of excess pyridine in tetrahydrofuran to give red-brown microcrystalline Re(NAr)2CI(py)2 (1a) in 80% yield. Emerald green Re-(NAr)2(CH2-t-Bu)(py)2 (2a) can be prepared by addition of 0.5 equiv of dineopentylzinc to 1a in dichloromethane or by reducing Re(NAr)2(CH2-t-Bu)Cl2 in the presence of pyridine. Addition of 2-butyne to 1a or 2a gives complexes of the form Re(ArN)2X(2-butyne) (X = CI, CH2-t-Bu), while addition of acetone, pivaldehyde, or norbornene to 2a gives complexes of the form Re(NAr)2(CH2-t-Bu)(η2-ligand). Reduction of Re(NAr)2(CH2-t-Bu)Cl2 in the presence of PMe2Ph yields Re(NAr)2(CH2-t-Bu)(PMe2Ph).
