Abstract

It is found that the broadening of the 1100-cm-1 line of SO-24, caused by increasing [H3O+], is unaffected by addition of 4 M LiCl, NaBr, KCl and NH4Cl. This finding is in line with the lack of influence of NaCl reported earlier. The significance of these findings, in terms of the reaction mechanism, is discussed.
