Abstract
An experimental study of the interaction of two oblique conical shocks was carried out in the hypersonic wind tunnel of the CNRS at Meudon, France. The flow Mach number was 4.96 under steady conditions. The experiments show the classical regular and Mach interactions and reveal for the first time a new type of interaction which implies an incident weak shock and an incident strong shock. Furthermore, a double hysteresis loop was observed during the transition between the three types of interaction.
