Abstract
A new approach to the description of electromagnetic wave propagation along the helix of helicoidal liquid crystals is presented. It consists of transforming the field components in the 4 × 4 matrix formulation, into a system such that the coefficients matrix becomes a constant. The method gives directly the characteristic matrix of the structure from which many optical properties can be easily deduced.
