Abstract

The authors report the results of studies of the catalytic properties of the binary systems A1C1//3-MX//n and GaC1//3-MX//n, where M is an element from Groups I-VIII of the periodic system, under the conditions of n-hexane conversion. Experimental data shows that aluminum chloride promoted with salts, predominantly chlorides, of elements from Groups Ib, IIb, IIIb, and VIII, and gallium trichloride promoted with chlorides of elements from Groups I-IV, are effective catalysts of n-hexane disproportionation. A correlation exists between the promoting activity of salts in aluminum and gallium trichlorides in disproportionation of alkanes and the potentials of ionization of (n plus 1) electrons of the promoter cations.
