Abstract
When magnetic pulse welding was applied to industrially common aluminum alloy 7075-T6, good welds approximately equal to the base material were produced. The mechanical and microstructural characteristics of the welded joints were evaluated using tensile, torsion, and microhardness tests, optical and scanning electron microscopy, and wavelength-dispersive spectroscopy for local chemical analysis. As such, initial results showed good welds can be produced with strengths approximately equal to the base material. This paper discusses some aspects of bond formation and morphology of the interface achieved.
