Abstract
Experimental results for magnetostrictive generation of sound waves in various magnetic materials are given. Enhancement effects for this generation are studied near the spin reorientation transition in ErFeO3, near ferromagnetic resonance in Fe3O4, and near the magnetic phase transition in Tb. Second-harmonic sound generation in Fe3O 4 and Tb is reported. All these results can be explained semiquantitatively using magnetic symmetry arguments.
