Abstract

(from the chapter) This chapter examines both the endocrine and neural aspects of reproductive hormone action on behavior. /// Topics include: physical context: anatomy and physiology and the neuroendocrine system (hypothalamus and pituitary, neurohypophysis hormones: oxytocin and arginine vasopressin, the structure of the glands); social context (development of behavioral sex differences, influences on puberty and fertility; affiliation, bonding, and courtship; sexual behavior and changes over the menstrual cycle, parental care, aggression and dominance, effects of hormones on cognition); and inferential context (blood, saliva, urine, feces, metabolism of steroids and analyses).
