Abstract

The author reviews and summarizes 40 years of achievements and accomplishments in Israel; materials science and materials engineering research. The author emphasizes the importance of the establishment of Israel's system of professional and academic instruction in the field of materials science and engineering. Starting from zero, Israel has succeeded in training over the past twenty years in the major institutes of higher learning, literally hundreds of engineers and tens of scientists in MS&E. Their imprint is felt at all levels of the various industries, including the metal, semiconductor, plastic and even ceramic-based ones. In the case of basic research, Israel is represented in the scientific literature for beyond its economic or political weight in the world. However, the author is troubled by what he regards as insufficient investment in education at the present time in Israel on Israel's ability to maintain its high performance in the field of MS&E.
