Max Margules-a cocktail of meteorology and thermodynamics

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Margules is a well-known name to students of thermodynamics and physical chemistry. He left us with basic equations and theories that continue to be valid and useful. Very few are aware that Margules was also an exceptional meteorciogist who used the laws of thermodynamics, to establish the basic principles that regulate the formation of storms and cyclones. His original model for describing the vapor pressure of components in a mixture has inspired many new models to describe the phase equilibria of a mixture.
