Abstract
A study was performed on the measurement and prediction of the speed-dependent throughput of a magnetic octupole velocity filter. A general theory of the transmission and speed distribution of particles emitted from such a source including nonadiabatic effects was presented. It was found that the nonadiabatic effects did not affect the performance of the filter.
