Abstract

This paper deals with measuring small mechanical oscillations or vibrations. It is briefly shown that the use of conventional methods is often not possible because of the influence of measuring instruments on the system's parameters. The second obstacle is absence of room to place the instrument or its elements. This paper describes a new approach in measuring by use of a laser beam which permits one to obtain stable results with an accuracy range up to 10 mu m. An example of the application of the described method for measuring relay contact and for the needle holder of the sewing machine vibrations is given.
