Abstract

An efficient approach for the construction of β-ketosulfones has been developed by the direct oxysulfonylation of styrene with N-hydroxy aryl sulfonamide. The metal-free reaction proceeds smoothly in the presence of the iodine/TBHP system and ethanol medium to provide diverse β-ketosulfones in good yields. Moreover, readily available starting materials, a broad range of functional group tolerance, a radical pathway, greener solvents, and mild conditions are the advantageous points of the present protocol.
