Abstract

Comparisons between the results from patch antenna arrays printed on conventional substrate to patch antenna array printed on UC-PBG substrate show that it is possible to receive a reduction in the mutual coupling among elements in the array. However, it may require more than 3 periods of photonic band-gap (PBG) between adjacent radiating elements in both the E-plane and H-plane. Thus, the use of UC-PBG substrate increased the maximum gain of the active element pattern in the array and partially suppressed the surface waves.
