Abstract
A stochastic model was derived for volume recovery in amorphous glassy polymers after thermal treatment. The constitutive relations incorporate the free volume theory and the concept of hops for rearranging regions and extend the `energy master equation' for structural relaxation in disordered media. Results demonstrated that the model adequately predicts volume recovery in poly(vinyl acetate) and an epoxy glass in the vicinity of the glass transition temperature.
