Abstract

Since solar collector thermal performance is highly dependent on the working fluid temperature range, often varying greatly between different collector brands, the most cost-effective method of meeting a given energy load could include use of a combination of solar collector brands. A design method for the 'multi-stage' solar collector system, in which different solar collector brands are connected in series, is presented, with the assumption of constant system fluid inlet temperature. Optimization is illustrated by a once-through solar industrial process heat system without storage that dumps excess energy.
