Abstract

Experimental and theoretical studies of MQW-based SLMs (multiple quantum well based spatial light modulators) have been carried out. The optical and electrooptical properties of both compositional and doping MQW structures have been studied. The results show that a highly efficient amplitude-modulated SLM is feasible with compositional MQW structures. The possibility of a phase-modulated MQW SLM at low absorption loss is also considered. Detailed designs of photoactivated, electrically addressed, and visible to IR image converters based on the MQW modulator have been developed.
