N2 - Through this book we would like to invite you, the reader, to a personal encounter with immigrants. We bring to you the narratives of immigrants who came to Israel from all over the world throughout the six decades of the country's existence. These are stories of men and women, young and old who suffered separations and losses, who in spite of the sadness and pain, found an inner strength and courage to build a new life. These narratives come together to reflect the mosaic of the Israeli society. In many ways it is not different from other immigrant societies. Immigration is immigration with its losses and pains, its adjustment difficulties, its generation gaps, its prejudices and discriminations, its successes and achievements. At the same time, immigration to Israel has distinctive characteristics, which make us who we are. Alas, we are often hard to understand or accept. It is our hope, that through the encounter 'with the experiences of immigrants in Israel, you will gain an understanding into our society, into Israelis.
