Negative refractive index in natural, non-magnetic media

Abstract

We report that a negative refractive index (NRI) can be generated in a relativistically moving medium by breaking translational symmetry. The threshold for NRI behaviour is the medium's Čerenkov speed (εμ) -1/2.
