Abstract

reviews the most up to date Israeli research and practice in refugee and immigrant mental health with a focus on the current mass immigration from the former Soviet Union and Ethiopia / stress mitigating factors and conceptual models in the immigration and absorption process are addressed / clinical and empirical studies of refugee mental health, including psychological distress, help-seeking behavior, and psychiatric admissions are presented / Israel's response to dealing with refugee and immigrant mental health through provision of services, training, and immigrant self-help is described / specific issues concerning a number of immigrant groups deemed at particular risk are delineated / these at-risk groups are adolescents, former residents of the areas surrounding Chernobyl, and Ethiopian immigrants (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved)
