Abstract

Due to the continuing growth in the economic and technological significance of die-cast magnesium alloys, the introduction of new alloys is necessary in order to enable their use in thermally-stressed power train components. VOLKSWAGEN has also become committed in this sphere and in 1997 initiated a wide-ranging research project which is pursuing the goal of developing an economical, creep-resistant die-casting magnesium alloy. This project and its results are described.
