Abstract

A Monte Carlo method is described for the calculation of the time dependent reliability and/or availability of complex systems. The methodology proposed mutuates the formalism used in particle transport. It adopts, in particular, the biasing methods, aimed, for a given accuracy, at reducing the calculational time. The Monte Carlo Code AMIR is then presented, together with an application to a reliability problem relevant to the decay heat removal system of a fast breeder reactor.
