Abstract

The initial rate of nitrate accumulation by cells of the XD line of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Xanthii) after induction with nitrite, is much higher than that of cells not induced. It is concluded that nitrate can induced the development of a nitrate uptake system in these cells.
