Abstract

The noise reduction capabilities of a Raman-mediated wavelength converter were discussed. The ultra wide band, Raman-mediated wavelength conversion was also described. Data conversion from long to short wavelength bands with significant noise reduction were demonstrated experimentally at 10 Gbit/s and confirmed by numerical simulations. The continous wave (CW) depletion transfer function versus the signal power coupled to the HNLF was measured for signal and probe wavelengths separated by the Stoke shift.
