abstract = "A Fokker-Planck equation which can be used to study the non-Gaussian statistics of soliton parameters was derived. In the presence of amplifier spontaneous emission (ASE) noise the propagation of solitons in optical fibers was described by the perturbed nonlinear Shroendinger equation (NLSE). The classical Gordon-Haus effect and Gaussian effect were recovered from Fokker-Planck equation in the limit of small propagation distance. A joint probability density function (PDF) was calculated from this equation and was proved to be essentially non-Gaussian.",
