Abstract
A constitute model for the viscoelastic behavior of polymers under non-isothermal loading has been derived in the first part of this work. This model is now applied to evaluate residual stresses built-up in a thick-walled cylindrical shell. This problem is of essential interest for predicting strength of composite pressure vessels. Based on constitutive equations of a standard thermoviscoelastic solid, we calculate stresses in a thick-walled polymeric shell wound around a metal mandrel and cooled in a heated chamber. The effect of material and structural parameters on residual stresses is analyzed numerically.
