Abstract
The spin reorientation is studied by neutron diffraction in polycrystalline samples of orthoferrites. The neutron diffraction results obtained are, in general, in good agreement with results obtained by other methods. However, these results (if interpreted in the usual way) lead in one compound to the conclusion that the spin axis is not parallel to a symmetry axis. This conclusion is also reported for some of the orthochromites but is nevertheless in disagreement with results from other methods. This discrepancy is discussed and a possible explanation is offered.
