Nonlinear analysis of underconstrained structures

Underconstrained (kinematically indeterminate) assemblies of bars and pin-joints possess a specific kind of nonlinearity which appears even for small displacements and linear elasticity. Various approaches to nonlinear analysis based on the Newton-Raphson procedure are considered. The subspace Newton-Raphson technique is proposed. Theoretical considerations are accompanied by numerical examples of plane and space underconstrained assemblies.
